What a perfect book to host, considering we are a mother-daughter owned & run bookstore!
Writing a novel was never on Nina’s todo list. Then, in 2020, her mom got diagnosed with advanced cancer. She quit her job to help care for her. Together they always enjoyed reading mysteries, so they started imagining one that featured characters a bit like them—hardworking California women trying to balance professional ambition and motherhood. Nina wrote, and her mom read, and the creative process helped them heal and grow closer. Today, her mom is doing well, and Mother-Daughter Murder Night hit the NY Times list, and was chosen for a 2023 Reese Witherspoon Bookclub Pick!
Mother-Daughter Murder Night- Businesswoman Lana Rubicon has a lot to be proud of, her keen intelligence, impeccable taste, and the L.A. real estate empire she’s built. But when she finds herself trapped 300 miles north of the city, convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter Beth and teenage granddaughter Jack, Lana is stuck counting otters instead of square footage. When her granddaughter happens upon a dead body while kayaking she quickly becomes a suspect in the homicide investigation, and the Rubicon women are thrown into chaos. Lana has an idea, she’ll pull on her wig, find the true murderer, protect her family, and prove she still has power. But as their amateur snooping advances into ever-more dangerous territory, the headstrong Rubicon women must learn to do the one thing they’ve always resisted: depend on each other.
